Construction companies, material manufacturers and designers are all called to the new challenges:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Zero energy buildings (see new 2024 ZEB Directive): <\/strong>The goal is to make all new buildings zero-energy by 2030 and retrofit existing ones to improve their energy efficiency.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sustainable building materials:<\/strong> The use of environmentally friendly, recycled and bio-based building materials will be promoted (see EPD of materials).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Circularity: <\/strong>Circular economy will be encouraged in the construction sector by promoting reuse, recycling and selective demolition of buildings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Digitization: <\/strong>Digital technologies will be key to designing, constructing and operating more efficient and sustainable buildings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>The role of innovation<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p> Innovation is the key to meeting these challenges, enabling the development of new technological solutions, materials and construction processes. Sustainable innovation is also what the majority of European consumers expect. More than 7 in 10 consumers believe that sustainable innovation will make companies more competitive.   <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6982\" src=\"https:\/\/www.forethinking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Grafico-per-articolo-1.svg\" alt=\"\"> Source: Special Eurobarometer 538 European Commission &#8211; 2023 This path can be hindered by internal barriers of the companies themselves: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Resistance to change:<\/strong> The construction industry is traditionally conservative and can be resistant to the adoption of new technologies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lack of skills: <\/strong>The skills needed to manage innovation processes are not always present.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The cost bias: <\/strong>The idea that innovation can involve high upfront costs can hold back companies from starting on a virtuous path even before they begin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>But innovation is no longer an option; it is a necessity. <\/strong> Just imagine starting a construction site today, what will be the preferences and reference regulations to sell and have a competitive offer in two years? Now is the time to design with new solutions!  <\/p>\n<h4><strong>What are the ways to overcome barriers: <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p> Collaboration between construction companies, materials manufacturers and organizations that are structured and knowledgeable about sustainable innovation issues is key to accelerating the innovation process. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Collaborate with other players:<\/strong> Forming partnerships with companies that produce innovative materials and solutions optimizes costs and allows new expertise to be integrated without making mistakes;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Train staff:<\/strong> do not leave your staff behind and believe in training to acquire new skills and ingrain the urgency of innovation in the corporate culture;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adopt new suppliers: <\/strong>who have been able to create new materials with superior performance and lower environmental impact;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adopt new sustainable procurement procedures:<\/strong> new procurement protocols required to demonstrate the quality and sustainability of supply chain products (FSC, EPD).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Communicate: <\/strong>communicate your commitment and improvement goals without engaging in greenwashing practices (ESRS Sustainability Report, product EPDs, corporate communications).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Conclusioni:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p> The construction industry is set to constantly evolve in the coming years, and companies must be ready to adapt to new trends and technologies. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The benefits of sustainable innovation:<\/strong> Sustainable innovation brings many benefits, including reducing environmental impact, improving quality of life, creating new jobs, ensuring selling at the right value, and developing new markets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The role of institutions: <\/strong>Institutions will continue to play a key role in supporting innovation through industrial policies, tax incentives and favorable regulations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Possible activities to start:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Workshop industry evolution scenarios and follow up with company management (training on new sustainability issues and scenarios in the industry);<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation of corporate positioning (FSINDEX\u00a9);<\/li>\n<li>Analysis environmental hotspots of products (Life Cycle Assessment analysis);<\/li>\n<li>EPDs, environmental product declarations;<\/li>\n<li>Sustainability Report (materiality analysis and improvement plan).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> All activities are the beginning of a journey that helps companies understand the real opportunities of sustainable innovation and generate new sources of revenue and new markets. <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6887\" src=\"https:\/\/www.forethinking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Progetto-senza-titolo-4.svg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>They chose the path Forethinking:<\/strong><span style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 14px;\"> <\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forethinking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Chi-ha-scelto-Forethinking.svg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6999\" src=\"https:\/\/www.forethinking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Chi-ha-scelto-Forethinking.svg\" alt=\"\"><\/a><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Testimonials<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><em><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">\u201cSolbian has long been on its path toward sustainability with the competent collaboration of Forethinking.
