The project
Solbian produces flexible solar panels that are particularly suitable for sailboats, but their use is also valuable in electric mobility, caravans and campers, trekking, tents and shelters, emergency buildings and for architectural integration.
The first objective of the Forethinking program is the design of a survey system aimed at modeling an LCA data analysis structure (Life Cycle Assessment ISO 14040, ISO 14044); these activities are relevant to the strategic function, research and innovation, in order to achieve a substantial improvement in the ecological impact of products and processes, based on environmental data of the process and materials.
The system allows data simulation and analysis of the effectiveness of re-design actions, even before their actual application, to ensure that the innovation plans are supported by robust scientific data and LCA impact assessment.
The chemical screening of materials and the report of the metrics relating to critical environmental aspects (LCA) therefore determines the “sustainable procurement” procedures for all the players in the supply chain and the definition of a “Solbian environmental communication manual” to support product communication and corporate sustainability report.
The program is a real “trajectory project”, for a clear positioning within the “inspired companies” for sustainability and for the company’s growth and development programs in the direction of the global green deal.
Who is Solbian
Solbian is a leading Italian company in the production of photovoltaic panels, which borned in 2007, from the desire of the ocean sailor. Giovanni Soldini and physicist Marco Bianucci: bringing photovoltaics to racing sailboats.
For years now Solbian has been producing in Avigliana, in the province of Turin, developing and patenting an innovative method to encapsulate solar cells using only polymers and not glass, as is the case with other photovoltaic modules. Since 2006 the company has been in constant evolution, investing more and more in R&D, innovation and continuous training of resources; it was in fact the first company to have created a module based on flexible and light crystalline silicon cells.
A company native to sustainability that has seen the evolution of the product, originally designed for boating, flexible and modular photovoltaic panels both in composition and electronics, to different uses on from campers and caravans, to alpine shelters, from tents to installations from the most futuristic architectural applications to racing solar cars, from charging stations for electric bikes to solar chargers for phones and tablets.
